The Greater Derry Humane Society has no paid staff, we are run solely by volunteers. Our main budget item is our Veterinary Fund that is constantly being depleted to cover medical costs for the animals in our care. We do not receive any town, city or government funds. Therefore, we depend on fundraising and on the generous donations from people like you.
Here are some of our routine costs:
Every animal we rescue or is surrendered to us gets a complete physical which can cost up to $150.
Each animal is given a rabies vaccine and updated on all other vaccinations, costing $25-$75.
Each animal is either spayed or neutered before being available for adoption. Costs are $75-$150.
Some animals need a good dental cleaning or extractions which ranges from $200-$500+.
Some animals have heartworm and if not severe will get treated which can become costly.
All animals are put on heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative, costing $25 per month/per animal.
Some animals need further tests done or need medicines for common disease such as diabetes, thyroid problems and others...costs can vary.
Please donate to the Veterinary Fund! Our animals thank you!
The mission of the Greater Derry Humane Society is to promote the humane care and treatment of all animals. Our goal is to reduce the suffering of animals through education, rescue, and support, and to work collaboratively with other organizations.
